VARSITY

The Flight Academy Varsity Team had a fair day. Coming off of the injured list Brian Inzeo jumped a respectable 17ft. 7in. Long Jump. Nicholas Navarro who ran and jumped the day before also jumped a respectable 17ft. 7inches. Although modest, combined these long jumpers still placed in the top ten. In the Triple Jump David Tarver (39ft. 1.5in.), and Corey Simmons (40ft.1in.) combined for a 3rd place finish of 79ft. 2.5 inches. The Javelin relay Alton Spencer (123ft.) and Brenden Casey (98.8ft.) placed 3rd with a combined throw of 221ft. 8inches. In the High Jump Sean (Air) Baum and Marcus Smith placed 5th with a combined jumped of 11ft. In the Discus Jerry Toussaint and Israel Vasquez met stiff competition placing in the top ten.

The Pole Vault competition was especially challenging for our young team however, with high winds, and room for improvement the team had a good showing. John Cangelosi bogged down with a difficult pole cleared 9ft. 6 inches; Ariel Pastoriza cleared 9ft. 6 inches; Angel Osorio cleared 9ft., and Joseph Cruz cleared 10ft. nearly clearing 10ft. 6 inches.

The Flying Bricks had a great day. In the Shot Put Caesar Vargas and Jude Montestine placed 2nd with a combination throw of 87ft 9 inches. Caesar threw a personal best of 46 ft 6 inches. Kellen Smith teamed up with Tommy Angeles to place 5th in this competition with a combined throw of 77ft. 5 inches.

The Runners (The High Milers) met strong competition but still remained on their feet. Andrew Aponte ran a strong race placing 4th in the 1600 meter run with a time of 4:58.4. Angel Alsina placed 5th in the 1600 meter with a time of 5:05. Earlier that day the Freshman Patrick Augustine, Carlos Rivera, Corey Simmons, and Angel Alsina placed 4th in the Distance Medley Relay with a time of 8:53.5 seconds.

In the Pentathlon Sophomore Sean Baum came forward to give the Senior and Junior athletes competition. He placed 3rd in the 110 Hurdles, 3rd in the High Jump(5'8"), 6th in the Shot Put , 5th in the Long Jump, and 8th in the 1500 meter run. Over all Sean placed 7th out of 15 Pentathletes.
