

La Salle caps three year turnaround with a dramatic win in the City Championship. After a 24 year drought (1976) Coach Devesin and Williams let the mutants out of the cage, and bring back the City Championship Crown. Holding back practical armies from Chaminade, Molloy, Farrell, and Fordham Prep high schools, La Salle won with 44 points, 5 points ahead of 2nd place Chaminade (39). La Salle had a combined effort from its runners, throwers and jumpers. Also undeniable help from Jump Captains Nicholas Navarro, Brian Inzeo, Speed Captain Chingiz Musayev, and Pole Vaulter John Cangelosi.
In the Pole Vault, Ariel Pastoriza placed 2nd with a vault of 9ft Joseph Cruz placed 3rd with 9ft. Angel Osorio placed 4th with of 8ft. 6 inches, and Lorenzo Smith placed with 7ft. 6 inches.
In the Shot Put, (The Flying Bricks) Cesar Vargas placed 3rd with a throw of 43ft 8 inches; Jude Montestime placed 4th with 43ft 2 and one half inches; Kellen Smith placed 6th with 40ft., and Israel Vasquez placed 7th with a throw of 39ft.
In the Triple Jump, Corey Simmons once again won the event with a jump of 38ft 3 and a half inches, and Marcus Smith powered up with a 4th place jump of 35ft. 4 and a half inches.
In the Long Jump, Angel Osorio placed 3rd with a jump of 15ft. 8 and one half inches.
In the High Jump, Sean Gilmore placed 2nd with a jump of 5ft. 4inches; Marcus Smith placed 4th with a jump of 5ft. 2 inches, and Kellen Smith placed 5th with a jump of 5ft. 2 inches.
Our Runners kept things exciting. Angel Alsina placed 2nd in the 1000 meter run with a time of 2:53.0. Corey Simmons blew the competition away placing 1st in the 300 meter run with a time of 38.0 seconds. Angel Alsina, Anthony DiGiovanni, Patrick Augustine, and Carlos Rivera ran a thrilling 3200 meter relay and placed 5th with a time of 9:40.3 seconds.
