Varsity-Soph-Freshman
The Iona Prep meet was a walk in the park for La Salle's elite Jumpers, Runners and Throwers. In the Discus Randy Sterling placed 7th with a throw of 94ft 11 inches. Sophomore Jerry Toussaint placed 3rd with a throw of 96ft. 4 inches. THE FLYING BRICKS walked away with a near sweep of this event. Israel Vasquez placed 1st with a throw of 91ft 5 inches; Kellen Smith placed 3rd throwing 82ft; Elton Alaij placed 4th throwing 76ft.7 inches, and Tommy Angeles placed 5th throwing 66ft.4 inches. Later, the Freshman throwers competed in the Shot-Put blowing away other competitors. Kellen Smith placed 1st with a throw of 43ft 4 inches; Tommy Angeles placed 2nd throwing 39ft. 4 inches, and Israel Vasquez placed 5th throwing 34ft. 10 inches.
In the Jumping events, Sophomore Sean (Air) Baum smacked the competition winning the 110meter Hurdles with a time of 16.6 seconds. Freshman Joseph Cruz also won the 110 Hurdles with a time of 16.9 seconds. Joseph also placed 2nd in the High Jump with a height of 5ft.
Runners Andrew Aponte and Lorenzo Smith did very well in their respective races. Andrew Aponte placed 2nd in the 1500 meter run and later came back to win the 800 meter run with a time of 2:15.3. Lorenzo Smith placed 8th in the 800 meter run with a time of 2:35. La Salle still remains the school to beat in the division.
